SESSION 4 – Genius Catalyst™

Now that you have explored your life-goals, we invite you to turn your attention to how you are spending your time.

Here’s the important question for Session Four:

What do you keep doing that keeps you out of your Genius?

Our research has found that if we are not living in our Genius zone, than we likely persist in doing things that fall into one of three other zones or “quadrants”:

  • The Incompetent quadrant
  • The Competent quadrant
  • The Excellent quadrant

What do you keep doing that falls into these quadrants? Let’s find out …

genius-quadrants

Understanding how you fill these quadrants and what you persist in doing will help you discover what IS and what IS NOT your Genius. The goal of Session Four is learning how to get out of the boxes and into the Genius Spiral using the Genius Catalyst™ graphic aid below.

With your Genius Catalyst™ graphic aid in hand, let’s take a brief look at each quadrant.

Incompetent

The Incompetent quadrant is full of what you persist in doing…

  • That others can do better
  • That you’re no good at
  • That you don’t enjoy

Examples (Gay): I’m not very good at things like fixing mechanical stuff or balancing checkbooks, but I realized I was spending time on them (and getting frustrated in the bargain.)

WHY? We persist in doing that what we’re Incompetent at because we are unconsciously addicted to suffering and frustration. You will learn more about unconscious addictions in other sections of Session 4.

Competent

The Competent quadrant is full of what you persist in doing…

  • That others can do just as well
  • That you do well but isn’t totally satisfying

Examples (Gay): I realized that there were things I was good at, but there were plenty of people who were just as good at doing them. For example, I’m competent at giving speeches, but there are plenty of people who can do it as well or better than I can. I realized I was doing a lot of these sorts of things just to make a buck.

WHY? We persist in doing that what we’re Competent at because we are unconsciously addicted to sleepwalking, going through the motions, and maintaining the status quo.

Excellent

The Excellent quadrant is full of what you persist in doing…

  • That you can do better than just about anyone else
  • That you consistently get positive feedback about your work
  • That you do extremely well, but isn’t ultimately satisfying

Examples (Gay): I realized there are things I’m excellent at, such as writing books and creating videos, but even these things are not my real genius. In fact, it’s easy to get stuck in the “Excellence Trap” and never get to what your true genius is. Once I really put my mind to it, it didn’t take me long to hone in on my genius (and now that Phil Johncock and I have created this course to take the mystery out of it, it’ll take you a lot less time than it took me!)

WHY? We persist in doing that what we’re Excellent at because we are unconsciously addicted to glory, approval, comfort, and doing well but playing safe.

Genius

The Genius Catalyst™ invites you to step into your full magnificence. In your Genius zone, you do…

  • Work that doesn’t seem like work
  • What brings you most joy and aliveness
  • What produces the highest ratio of abundance per time spent
  • What you most love to do
  • What is your unique ability

Examples (Gay): My genius is coming up with innovative ways for people to express their true potential. That’s what I’m very best at, and when I’m doing it I never feel like I’m working. I can do it all day long and not get tired.

Consider this …

We step into our Genius when we consciously commit ourselves to getting out of the box and into the Genius spiral, doing what we most love, and experiencing greater and greater levels of joy and aliveness.

In the Journal, BodyMind Harmonizing™ and Challenge sections of Session 4, you will have an opportunity to explore your unconscious addictions and how to get out of the boxes of incompetence, competence and excellence and step into the Genius spiral.

(NOTE: Each of the thirteen (13) sessions of the Genius Course Online contain these four sections: Lesson, Journal, BodyMind Harmonizing™ and Challenge.)
